SOLO: Tanel-Eiko Novikov

Tanel-Eiko Novikov will perform on his youthful-sounding marimba at the Tallinn Art Hall on Sunday, 12 July at 4 pm.

Tanel-Eiko Novikov (2000) is one of the most outstanding new-generation Estonian performers, who gained wider recognition as a percussion soloist after winning the TV competition “Classic Stars 2018” organised by Estonian Public Broadcasting and Concert Estonia, and representing Estonia at the “Eurovision Young Musicians 2018” competition in Scotland.

Tanel has performed in almost all major Estonian concert halls; as a soloist he has repeatedly performed in other Baltic countries, Scandinavia and farther in Europe, as well as at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Henry Crown Hall at the Jerusalem Theatre, Israel. He has played with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble and Helsinki Police Orchestra among others.

As a chamber musician, Tanel has formed Trio Trifecta with the finalists of the “Classic Stars 2018” competition, Ingely Laiv (oboe) and Johannes Põlda (violin), as well as an innovative percussion duo with Lauri Metsvahi which also includes virtual reality musical instruments.

Tanel’s goal is to further popularise percussion music in Estonia and to expand the possibilities of marimba as a solo instrument.
